Russian Drone Strikes Passenger Train in Zaporizhzhia Region, Injuring Conductor
A Russian drone struck a passenger train in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, injuring a train conductor and forcing the evacuation of passengers, Ukrainian authorities and the national railway operator said.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the attack targeted a civilian passenger train traveling through the region. Railway officials said a monitoring team had issued an early evacuation order before the strike, allowing passengers and crew to leave the train in time and preventing a larger number of casualties.
Preliminary reports indicate that one female conductor sustained minor injuries during the attack. She received medical assistance, while the remaining passengers were safely evacuated from the damaged train.
Passengers Evacuated by Bus
Following the strike, local authorities organized buses to transport passengers safely to the city of Zaporizhzhia. The evacuation was coordinated by the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration in cooperation with Ukrzaliznytsia.
The railway operator said the safety of passengers and railway staff remains its highest priority and that train operations in frontline areas will continue under enhanced monitoring to reduce risks from future drone attacks.
Civilian Infrastructure Under Fire
Ukrainian officials said the drone hit the locomotive and damaged several passenger cars. The attack is part of a broader pattern of Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure in regions close to the front line.
Infrastructure Minister Mykola Kalashnyk described the incident as another deliberate attack on Ukraine’s transportation system, accusing Russia of attempting to disrupt civilian mobility and spread fear among the population.
Railways Remain Critical During the War
Ukraine’s railway network has played a vital role since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, transporting civilians, humanitarian aid, and military personnel while maintaining connections between frontline regions and the rest of the country.
Despite repeated attacks on railway infrastructure, Ukrzaliznytsia has continued operating services across much of Ukraine, often restoring damaged routes within hours after strikes.
Russian authorities had not commented on the reported attack at the time of publication.
