Firefighters Use Helicopters to Extinguish Massive Warehouse Blaze After Russian Strike in Kyiv Region
Kyiv region, Ukraine — July 20, 2026 — Ukrainian emergency services have extinguished a massive fire that broke out at warehouse facilities in the Kyiv region following a Russian overnight attack, deploying helicopters, robotic equipment, and more than 200 firefighters in a large-scale operation. The blaze burned for more than 24 hours before it was fully brought under control.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES), the fire erupted in the Bucha district after Russian strikes ignited two warehouse buildings covering a combined area of approximately 100,000 square meters. The scale of the blaze required one of the largest firefighting operations in the region in recent months.
Helicopters and More Than 200 Rescuers Deployed
The firefighting effort involved more than 200 emergency personnel, around 70 pieces of specialized equipment, three helicopters, and robotic firefighting systems. Helicopters carried out repeated water drops while ground crews worked to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby facilities.
Emergency officials said the operation continued under difficult conditions because of the size of the warehouses and the intensity of the fire. After more than a day of continuous work, firefighters announced that the blaze had been fully extinguished.
Attack Damaged Civilian Infrastructure
The warehouses caught fire during Russia’s overnight attack on the Kyiv region, which also caused damage elsewhere in the region and injured civilians, according to local authorities. Emergency services focused on preventing further destruction and securing the affected industrial site.
Officials have not released an estimate of the financial losses caused by the destruction of the warehouse complex. The cause of the fire has been attributed to the Russian strike, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Critical Infrastructure Remains Under Threat
Warehouse and logistics facilities have become frequent targets during Russia’s aerial campaign against Ukraine. Such attacks disrupt supply chains, destroy commercial property, and complicate the delivery of goods and humanitarian assistance.
Despite the scale of the damage, Ukrainian emergency responders said the coordinated use of aviation and ground units prevented the fire from spreading even further and helped bring the situation under control.
