Ukraine’s national postal operator Ukrposhta is expanding its automated delivery network with plans to install 1,000 new outdoor parcel lockers in cities across the country. The project is being developed in partnership with Ukrainian equipment manufacturer Modern-Expo and is designed to make parcel collection and postal services more accessible outside traditional branches.

First Lockers Planned for Major Cities

The first installations will focus on large Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv and Dnipro, with additional locations planned in other regional centers.

Ukrposhta is looking particularly for locations close to residential buildings, where customers can access parcels without having to travel to a traditional post office.

The company is inviting condominium associations, property management companies and housing developers to propose suitable locations. After an application is submitted, Ukrposhta will assess the location and agree on the technical details before installation.

More Than Just Parcel Collection

The new outdoor units are designed to combine two functions.

Customers will be able to receive parcels through the lockers, while the same structures will also include conventional mailboxes that can be used to send letters.

This is intended to make the new infrastructure more useful than a standard parcel locker and could eventually allow Ukrposhta to replace some traditional outdoor mailboxes with multifunctional units.

Part of a Larger Automation Push

The 1,000 outdoor lockers are part of a broader modernization of Ukrposhta’s delivery network.

The company has already been expanding indoor automated parcel lockers at its branches. By late July, 376 of the 600 planned indoor compartments had reportedly been installed across 15 Ukrainian regions.

The outdoor network is intended to take automation a step further by allowing customers to collect parcels directly in residential areas rather than visiting a branch.

Convenience for Customers

For customers, parcel lockers can reduce the need to wait in line or plan a visit around branch opening hours.

They can also provide a useful alternative in densely populated residential areas where a nearby post office may be several kilometers away.

Ukrposhta has previously said that its automated lockers are designed to make parcel collection faster and more convenient, while helping reduce pressure on traditional branches.

The Network Could Grow Beyond 1,000

Ukrposhta describes the first 1,000 outdoor lockers as the beginning rather than the final size of the network.

The company plans to continue purchasing its own lockers and eventually integrate partner companies’ parcel lockers into its delivery network as additional collection points.

That could eventually create a much denser network of automated delivery points across Ukrainian cities.
