Russia Targets Ukraine’s Gas Production for Third Consecutive Day, Naftogaz Reports Losses
Russia has continued attacks on Ukraine’s gas production facilities for a third consecutive day, causing damage to energy infrastructure and temporarily reducing production capacity, Ukraine’s national energy company Naftogaz said.
The company reported that Russian forces carried out targeted strikes on gas production facilities, particularly in the Kharkiv region, causing significant destruction at several sites. According to Naftogaz, specialists are assessing the consequences and working to determine the full scale of the losses.
Damage to Gas Production Facilities
Naftogaz said the attacks caused damage to equipment and disrupted operations at affected facilities. Some production processes had to be temporarily suspended as emergency crews and company specialists worked to stabilize the situation.
The company has not disclosed the exact volume of lost production, saying that a complete assessment will only be possible after security conditions allow technical inspections of the damaged sites.
The attacks are part of a broader Russian campaign targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which Ukrainian officials say is aimed at weakening the country’s energy security ahead of the winter season.
Repeated Strikes on Energy Infrastructure
Naftogaz said Russian forces have repeatedly targeted its production assets throughout 2026. Earlier attacks affected facilities in Poltava, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions, where drones and other weapons caused fires, major damage, and forced parts of the equipment to stop operating.
In previous strikes, Naftogaz officials warned that attacks on gas production could affect Ukraine’s ability to maintain sufficient domestic supplies and prepare for the heating season.
Energy Security Under Pressure
Ukraine relies heavily on domestic gas production to meet household and industrial demand, particularly during the colder months. Damage to production facilities creates additional pressure on the country’s energy system and may require temporary compensation measures, including additional gas imports.
Naftogaz CEO Serhii Koretskyi said the company is working to restore damaged facilities and minimize the impact of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy supply.
Russia’s Continued Attacks on Ukrainian Infrastructure
Energy facilities have remained a major target of Russian attacks throughout the war. Ukrainian officials say Moscow has repeatedly attempted to damage power generation, gas production, and fuel infrastructure in an effort to undermine civilian resilience and economic stability.
Russian authorities have not commented on the latest Naftogaz statements. Independent verification of the extent of damage remains difficult due to ongoing security risks.
