Latvian family and traditions
Latvia has some similar features with the Polish customs, even though those are two different countries. While in many other countries there was a decline in fertility, in Latvia there is no such problem and it is not expected in the nearest future. The thing is that in Latvia abortions are banned and large families still retain their positions. However, children require that the family budget was enough for each child to have decent living conditions for further development and learning. Each child needs to get good education and how to do it if parents have not enough funds to ensure all children will get higher education and thereby to enable them to get prestigious job.
Not only for parents is important to arrange their child a decent life. It is also in the interests of the state and therefore the government in Latvia itself primarily creates all the conditions for obtaining a good education and provides assistance to people who are not always able to resolve the issues themselves with the training and the creation of an adequate level of living. Young families in Latvia are starting a life together with the fact that first create a material base, and then plan their family so as not to create unnecessary problems currently with many children. Despite the fact that children in Latvia are always a great joy, it is still much better if their education will be of sufficient conditions. Grandparents help in raising children and have great pleasure assuming responsibilities for the upbringing of children and take care for them while their parents are busy at work.
Father refuses to perform the dirty work, though he agrees to take a vacation to care for a child. He never refuses to go with the child for a walk, but only if the wife would put him completely and gather everything may be needed during the walk with the child. In order to feed child, change clothes or bathe the child, Latvian father would do nothing. Not only that all parenting practically lies on the shoulders of the mother, the woman also must also comply with perfect purity in the house. The man in the family has a complete and unquestionable authority, when a woman is obliged to create a cosines in the house, and convenience for life. And this state of affairs does not oppress women absolutely, because they find a special pleasure to direct glossy cleanliness in the house. In case if wives combines work and household and earns much more revenue for the family, the man is still considered the head of the family and the main breadwinner. Somewhat strange situation in which a woman could have long been taken all the rights, but this does not happen, because women have always respected the man’s strength and imperiousness. Love and respect in the family are always present in any case, even if the man is a master and authority. Man will always support his wife, and she, in turn, will always be on the side of her husband, no matter what happens. Everyone sees for himself the happiness in family relationships, and Latvians understand family relationships as well in their own way.
Very interesting is name selection for the baby in Latvia. To do this, all the relatives are gathered together and each of them shares the possible proposals. However, older relatives have more importance in proposing names which has to be selected. It turns out that parents alone cannot determine the choice of name for their children and they just have to take those names which are chosen for their children by their grandparents. This may be the names of saints or ancestors and have to put up with them because this tradition has existed for a very long time.
In recent years the country has a large number of single mothers who have to raise their children without a father, and a lot of children who were destined to be born in a single-parent family, out of wedlock. Mothers in this situation have many difficulties to raise a child alone, despite the fact that the assistance of parents is a big plus when the mother has to come to work prematurely. Benefits for children in Latvia cannot help the mother get out of this problem, and so now the government is considering new regulations on how to somehow make life easier for children in single-parent families. Many single-mothers who do not have help of their parents are forced to leave their children in orphanages and precisely in this direction is a strong state aid. Children in orphanages should receive all they cannot get in their family.
Education in Latvia today becomes more developed and every child can get a full education. It’s all available and possible for all Latvian parents to educate the child at state expense starting from primary school till higher education in a prestigious University. If desired and financial opportunities are enough, Latvia parents try to send their children to study abroad and it becomes now very popular. This increases for children and adolescents the opportunity to get a more prestigious and much better payee job.
